St Philip

St Philip lived in the sixteenth century and spent most of his life in Rome where he founded the Oratory.

Amongst other things, St Philip is known as the saint of joy. He always seemed to be in good spirits, saying that it was easier for cheerful souls to draw closer to Our Lord than sad souls. He would play practical jokes on people so that they didn’t take themselves too seriously.

One of his most famous sayings is, “The great thing is to be saints”.

St Philip’s feast day is 26 May.
