St Francis of Assisi

St Francis of Assisi is the patron saint for our Reception class.

He was born in 1181 and he died in 1226. He is especially famous for his poverty, for founding the Franciscans, for his love of all God’s creatures, and, towards the end of his life, for having the stigmata (the five wounds of Christ).

A very detailed account of his life is available.

His feast day is 4th October.
