First Communion Arrangements – 2012

The First Communion Preparation day for this year’s children will be on

Friday 15th June 2012

(the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus)

at the Oratory

and will take place within the school day (that is, between 9am and 3pm) so children should arrive at and be collected from school in the usual way and at the usual times.

The day will include:

Confessions at 9:30  –  (parents are encouraged to go to Confession too)

 Mass at 10

Rosary straight after Mass

Benediction at 2:15pm

as well as practical rehearsals and some revision of what the children have learned.

The children should bring a packed lunch, and should wear a waterproof coat for the walk to and from the Oratory.

Parents are most welcome at the start of the day (for Mass, the rosary and Confession) and at the end (for Benediction).

The First Communion Mass itself will be at the Oratory on the following day,

Saturday 16th June at 11am.

Children should arrive in the Guild Room not later than 10:30.

Parents and other family members should go straight into Church and take their places. Seats will be reserved for the First Communion children only. The earlier parents arrive, the nearer the front they will be able to get.

First Communion children should wear formal dress: boys are encouraged to wear shirt and tie; girls are encouraged to wear white dresses and veils. Children may, of course, follow their own national customs if these are different. Hands should be clean, and shoes polished.

The First Communion children will receive Holy Communion first and then return to their seats. Then other members of the congregation may go up for Communion.

The Archbishop has reminded us that no photographs may be taken during the Mass. There will be an opportunity for photographs afterwards.

There will be a breakfast in the Guild Room after Mass but as space is especially limited this year (because of our building works) parents are asked to note that only the First Communion children themselves be allowed into the room.

Please contact your child’s teacher or Fr Joseph directly if you have any further questions.
