The 2014 Parent Governor meeting took place in the Courtyard on 31st March. The meeting started at 19:40 and the minutes were taken by Elizabeth Woolliams , Clerk to the governors.
The meeting was well attended compared to similar meetings in previous years with about 15 parents present.
The evening started with a welcome and introduction by Iain Johnson , Chair of governors, who, after a brief pause, introduced the governors and explained their role.
Key stage 2 results were presented as well as an appeal for parents to sign up to the school building fund. An update on “Academies” and why St Aloysius remains a VA school.
Fr. Daniel spoke about the tragic loss of Angela Sloan and how the whole school lived up to its Mission statement in response. He spoke of her lasting impact on the children she taught.
Mr Walker gave an informative and entertaining review of the last year including many anecdotes and explanations of events and trips, lessons and special moments. He thanked the PTA, all those who volunteer, the teachers, the support staff and governors .
Mrs Frith Powell enthralled everyone with an explanation of the St Aloysius Creative Curriculum. Everyone present was impressed with how the children themselves influence each term’s teaching by answering the “BIG question”. The presentation showed how the children are taught all the aspects of the national curriculum in a framework that is built around our Mission statement.
Dr peter Scarborough rounded off the presentations with the results of the Parent and children’s questionnaires. The results were overwhelmingly positive and very informative.
A short question and answer session rounded off the evening with questions such as
- A request for girls to be given a larger role in School Masses – Answered by Fr Daniel
- A question about how the data from the questionnaires is used to improve the school – Answered by governors and by Mr Walker .
- A question about homework and the school homework policy. Answered by Mr Walker and Mrs Frith Powell
The meeting ended at 21:05. Minutes of this meeting will be available later in the year once the Clerk to the governors has submitted them for approval at the next Full Governing Body meeting.
THANK YOU to everyone who attended.
