Carillion who provide our catering via “Food with thought” have today issued the following statement ….
“Beef is back on the menu at all Oxfordshire schools with Carillion’s Food With Thought catering service. The precautionary measure was put in place temporarily to allay any concerns over horse meat contamination and because many parents didn’t want their children to eat beef.
We are delighted to inform you that all our beef supplies that were tested for horse contamination from our local Oxfordshire butchers and national suppliers returned with zero equine DNA.
Carillion will continue to monitor Food Standards Agency advice, and we assure you that the food provided through our Food With Thought catering service has the highest level of quality, nutrition and hygiene.
In the three-weekly Food With Thought lunch cycle, beef appears five times. The next time beef appears on the menu will be in Cottage Pie next Thursday, 14 March. In the event that your catering team ordered lamb mince, this will remain as the Shepherd’s Pie alternative as we have asked our catering supervisors to use existing stock before resuming the full menu containing beef. The beef menu items are:
- Week One, Thursday: Cottage Pie.
- Week Two, Monday: Aberdeen Angus beef burger.
- Week Two, Thursday: Pasta Bolognaise.
- Week Three, Tuesday: Lasagne.
- Week Three, Wednesday: Roast Beef.”
